Puppet Tears: Puppetry Shop Talk

Dec 9, 2020

In a very special installment of Cheers to Puppeteers we have an incredible mentor to both Adam and Cam - Richard Termine. Richard is a prolific arts photographer who has documented behind the scenes of Sesame Street and other Henson productions for nearly 40 years, in addition to working as a builder in the Muppet Workshop throughout the 1980's. Richard is one of the founders of the National Puppetry Conference at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center; his photography is also regularly featured in the arts' section of The New York Times.

We talk to Richard about his early love for theater and stage-craft, joining the Jim Henson Company after their performance at 1980's World Puppetry Festival, and how he stumbled into the world of theater photography. Join us for an image-packed adventure through puppet history and we learn what makes a great puppetry photo. PLUS: find out how COVID has changed the way Richard takes photos on Sesame Street.
